County Clubs Impress at Welsh Teams Championship

The strength and depth of club golf within Caernarfonshire was on full display at this year’s Welsh Teams Championship, with five county clubs competing at Wrexham Golf Club from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th August.

Aberdovey, Royal St Davids, North Wales, Nefyn and Conwy all qualified for the championship and represented the county with distinction, producing a series of excellent performances throughout a highly competitive weekend.

The championship was played on a firm and fast Wrexham course, with the greens providing an additional challenge. Presented in fantastic condition, the fast putting surfaces demanded precision and placed a premium on good approach play and a strong putting game.

North Wales were the final county team standing, progressing through to the semi-finals before being beaten by Neath in a closely contested match.

There was also an excellent run from Conwy, who reached the quarter-finals before narrowly losing to Celtic Manor, who went on to win the championship.

The performances of all five clubs were a great reflection of the quality of golf being played throughout the county. To have five teams qualify for the Welsh Teams Championship is a fantastic achievement in itself, and every club can be proud of their efforts over the weekend.

A huge congratulations to the players, captains and supporters from Aberdovey, Royal St Davids, North Wales, Nefyn and Conwy on their performances and for representing Caernarfonshire so well on the national stage.

The Welsh Teams Championship now moves on to Southerndown Golf Club in 2027, and we look forward to seeing our county clubs competing again and hopefully going one step further next time.
