Caernarfonshire produced an outstanding team performance to record a comprehensive 7.5–1.5 victory over Anglesey in their latest county league fixture at North Wales Golf Club, moving themselves into a strong position at the top of the league standings.
Played on a course presented in excellent condition, the match was contested in firm, fast and windy conditions, providing a true links test for both teams.
The foundation for victory was once again laid in the morning foursomes, where Caernarfonshire claimed a convincing 2.5–0.5 advantage. That result also completed an unbeaten league campaign in the foursomes, with the team finishing the season with an impressive record of seven wins and two halved matches.
The afternoon singles continued in the same fashion, with Caernarfonshire producing another excellent display to win the session 5–1 and secure an emphatic 7.5–1.5 overall victory.
The result represents a turnaround in the league standings. Having trailed by six points before the match started, Caernarfonshire have now overturned that deficit and sit three points clear at the top of the table, although the Flintshire versus Denbighshire fixture is still to be played.
There were also memorable county debuts for Stephen Nealey and George Price, both of Conwy Golf Club. The pair rose to the occasion superbly, remaining unbeaten throughout the day and contributing an outstanding 3.5 points between them—a strong return on their first appearances in county colours.
The victory leaves Caernarfonshire in a strong position heading into the final event of the season, the Four Counties Championship at Bull Bay Golf Club. With additional league points still available, there is still work to be done, and the team knows another strong performance will be required to guarantee the overall league title.
