Officers

The Caernarfonshire & District Golf Union is led by a team of elected and appointed officers, each giving their time in the service of the game across Caernarfonshire.

Officers are elected at the Annual General Meeting and serve fixed terms in accordance with the County Constitution. Together they form the Executive Committee, which manages the day-to-day affairs of the Union on behalf of its 18 member clubs.

Eilir Angel

The President chairs the Annual General Meeting and all County Meetings held during their term of office. In their absence the Vice-President takes charge; if no Vice-President is available, the Secretary chairs proceedings.

The President is elected at the AGM to serve a term of three years and may stand for re-election at the conclusion of that period. On relinquishing office, the President becomes a Vice-President of the Union for life — a reflection of the esteem in which the role is held within the County.

Matt Peacock

The County Captain leads the Men’s county team, overseeing player selection, team management and transport arrangements for all county matches. The Captain serves a two-year term, agreed by a steering committee of the Executive and past captains.

The Captain must be a member of a club affiliated to the CDGU and represents the County with distinction in inter-county competition throughout their tenure.

John Redmond

The Seniors Captain leads the county’s senior team, organising and managing all inter-county senior matches including team selection and the coordination of county clothing for selected players.

Working closely with the County Secretary, the Seniors Captain also manages hotel and travel arrangements for Welsh Inter-Counties fixtures, ensuring that players representing the county do so with full support from the Union.

Lee Jones

The County Vice Captain supports the County Captain across all aspects of county team management, deputising where required and working closely with the Captain in preparation for inter-county and Welsh Inter-Counties fixtures. The Vice Captain is an integral part of the county’s representative setup and will succeed to the captaincy in due course, ensuring continuity of leadership within the county team programme.

Jason Spencer

The Past County Captain is a non-voting record role that recognises the individual who most recently held the captaincy before the current incumbent. It carries no executive responsibility but serves as an important acknowledgement of service to the County — and the holder remains a valued member of the wider captain’s steering committee that helps advise on future captaincy appointments.

Mark Longmore

The Secretary is responsible for the general management of the CDGU: scheduling and minuting Union meetings, arranging and booking county competitions, and overseeing the production and distribution of County cards and clothing.

As Treasurer, this officer also manages the Union’s finances and presents an annual statement of accounts at the AGM, together with a cash-flow analysis as part of the Strategic Plan Review.

Sue Hughes

The Competition Secretary organises and runs all County competitions, producing and distributing results from each event. They liaise closely with the County Captains regarding county team match scheduling and requirements.

This role is the operational hub of the County’s competitive calendar, ensuring that every event — from the County Championship to the Seniors Handicap Cup — runs with precision and care.

TBC

The Junior Organiser is responsible for all aspects of county junior golf: organising county junior team matches, selecting players to represent the county, and distributing county clothing to junior team members.

Developing young golfers across Caernarfonshire is one of the CDGU’s most important long-term commitments. The Junior Organiser is central to that mission — building a pathway that takes talented young players from their home clubs to county teams and, for the most gifted, towards representing Wales.

Ben Brown

The Under 14s Development Officer is responsible for introducing and nurturing the youngest golfers in the county — players who are still building their games, typically at higher handicap levels, and who are not yet ready for the competitive junior programme.

This is a vital role in ensuring that county golf reaches the next generation early, so that no talent in Caernarfonshire is overlooked.
