Junior County Team

Junior county golf in North Wales has a history stretching back to 1962, when the North Wales Junior Golf Association was founded. The Association was amalgamated into the NWCGA in 1999, and the four counties have since competed together under one administration for both junior and senior golf. Caernarfonshire’s junior team is one of the county’s most important commitments — the primary pathway through which young players from affiliated clubs progress to senior county representation and, for the most talented, towards national honours.

The junior programme covers Boys Inter-County Matches against Anglesey, Denbighshire and Flintshire, as well as individual scratch competition through the NWCGA’s junior events including the Keegan Bowl (under-21 category) at the annual Championship day. Selection for the junior team is managed by the Junior Organiser, with player development at younger ages supported by the Under 14s Development Officer, whose role is to bring on younger players and bridge them into the competitive county junior programme.

Any golfer aged under 18 who is a member of an affiliated club is eligible to be considered for junior county selection. Players aged 18–21 may also compete for the Keegan Bowl at the NWCGA Championship.
