A fantastic county season in the Four Counties league ended with a fitting finale, with Caernarfonshire winning the Four Counties championship, the overall league title, and there was one outstanding individual performance that deserves special mention. George Price produced an exceptional 64 to win the individual competition by four shots. It was an outstanding round of golf and a fantastic way for George to make his mark in his first season representing the county.
The rest of the team also delivered when it mattered. Iwan Lewis posted 71, Lee Jones 72, Matt Peacock 73 and Paul Roberts 75, providing the scores that combined for Caernarfonshire’s excellent 355 strokeplay total. This gave us a victory on the day by 7 shots from a determined Anglesey team, and it also secured the points we needed to become overall champions.
This victory caps off another excellent league campaign and is a testament to the strength and depth of the county squad. There has been some truly outstanding golf played throughout the season, often under significant pressure, and the team spirit has been a huge part of our success.
As captain, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has given up their time to represent and support Caernarfonshire over the past two seasons. It has been very much appreciated, and it has been a privilege to lead such a strong group of players. As always, many thanks to our County President, Eilir Angel, his support and team updates have been vital all season.
The strength of the squad and the team spirit within it bodes extremely well for the future, with Lee Jones set to take over as captain following the Welsh Intercounties.
But there is still one big event left. We now head to Newport for the Welsh Intercounties on 26th and 27th September, where we will have the chance to show the rest of Wales just how good this team can be.
One more big push — let’s finish the season strongly!
